                Student Success Statement
                                                            May 28, 2015

"A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder."

                                   Thomas Caryle

Reflection: I really like this quote because it is very specific and it is making a comparison between a man and a goal. It is also comparing a goal to a rudder which makes sense because both lead you somewhere. My comparison is, " A man without a goal is like the sea without water." I used this simile because a sea without any water doesn't have much left in it and nothing progresses.

                         Beautiful                                 Character
                                                       May 26, 2015

                                              Beautiful Character
If there is beauty in the character
there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,'there will be peace in the world.

                                                     Conclusion
If there is beauty in character
there will be peace in the world.

Reflection; I really like this quote because it paints a picture in my mind. I really like how there is a sequence in which we must follow in order to receive what we want, Peace. What I think this quote means is if people to change and get rid of the negativity, the world can become a wonderful place!!!

        The Six Pillars of Character
                                         May 26, 2015

                   1. Trustworthiness
be reliable, do not cheat or steal

                          2.Respect
be tolerant and accept differences, deal peacefully with anger

                          3.Responsibility
do what has to be done, be self-disciplined

                          4.Fairness
take turns, be open-minded and encourage justice

                          5. Caring
help people in need, forgive others, show compassion

                           6.Citizenship
cooperate, stay informed, obey laws and rules, protect the environment

I really like these six pillars because they help you become a better person and they encourage you to improve yourself! I would like to have learned these six pillars of character when I was a child so I could have well developed these characteristics. These pillars are not just quotes, all together they are a road to success in life that we must take! From now on I promise to myself that I will follow these six pillars of character.

                                Student Success Statement
                                                                   May 21, 2015

" I would prefer to fail with honor than win by cheating."

                                            Sophocles

Reflection; I agree with this quote because I believe cheating is very unfair and wrong. For example, if you are taking a test, you do not understand a question on your test, it is better to try your best than copy your partner. Honor is so graceful we shouldn't lose it but trying to win unfairly.
                                                     Memorial Day
                                                                  May 21, 2015

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a day in which we show respect and appreciate those who passed away in the military of the U.S.

What is the purpose of Memorial Day?

The purpose of Memorial Day is to dedicate a day to those who died fighting for our country.

 When is it?
Memorial day is always on the last Monday of May.

What are a few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?

One way to show honor  is to wear the United States colors to show that we also represent our country and we are proud that we are living here. Another way to show respect is to take flowers to a cemetery if you know someone who passed away in the military. You can also visit a family of someone who had a member of their family in the military. Making a prayer for someone who passed away is also a way to show respect.

This May 2015, Memorial Day will land on May 25.

                         L.A.U.S.D: Families
                                                               May 13, 2015

Here is a list of some programs that L.A.U.S.D. offers to families.

  • Parent and Family Centers
  • School Volunteer Programs
  • Parent Advisory Committee
  • E.S.C. Parent Engagement Programs
  • Parent Reunion Committees

1. How will these services benefit you?

These services can benefit me in different ways. the first thing I gain from my parents being part of a district program is they are updated and they know what is going on in school and in the district therefore this helps them understand my education requirements. Also, these programs can help my parent develop new skills and it may help them learn new ways to deal with situations.

2. Which of these services will you and your family use?

I believe my parents will be comfortable with the school volunteering programs. I think this program will help them learn how teens act these days by observing them and it can also be used to keep an eye on me. The parent reunion committee will also be considered by my parents because I believe parents care and share ideas with other parents that have children of the same age.

                     The Generous Man
                                                                 May 11, 2015

Patrick was roaming an airport bar when he spotted an i pad of the floor near a chair. When he opened the case, there were $13,000.00 sitting in the cover. There were not many people around anyone could of easily picked it up and left. Not Patrick Morgan however. Patrick grabbed it and turned it in to the authorities. The owner of the i pad was found and as a compensation, he gave Patrick sixty-dollars! Patrick received the money, gave half of it to a homeless woman and the other half to a co-worker. His boss then compensated him for his good acts and gave him $625.000. What will Patrick do with that money?

"The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon."

                Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Reflection; Many thoughts ran through my mind while I read this quote. One of the thoughts that came to me was during these years people do things for you because they expect you to give them something in return when you do a favor or to pay them back. That is not the gift they should be valuing however. The gift, the gem, the greater thing in return that you should get is feeling good for what you did because you helped someone out in a way. The other thought that I was contemplating about was, I must learn how to appreciate what others do for me more because they gave some of their time to me and time can never be gotten back once it has been used or given.
                    L.A.U.S.D: Students
                                                               May 11, 2015

  1. Summer School
  2. Code of Conduct Teacher-Student Project
  3. Athletic Programs/ Sports Teams
  4. Student Health and Human Services
  5. Musical and Arts Partnership
  6. Before and After School Programs
  7. Pupil Services
  8. Work Permits
  9. Digital Library Programs
  10. Transportation Services
How will these services benefit you?

These services will benefit me because they will help me develop a stronger mind by enrolling myself into new things and becoming more responsible. These services will also benefit me because they teach me more things apart from what I learn in school. I can process and think outside of the box.

Which of these services will you use?

I think all of these services are very beneficial but I have selected my top three. The first service I have chosen is the athletic/sports program. I selected this because sports are very important to me educationally and personally. The second service i chose was the digital library program. I really like to read and I believe this service will help me develop a farther relationship with books. The last service I selected was musical/arts partnership. I like this service because it seems interesting and I can learn a lot from it.

               Nursing Home Administrator
                                                                   May 7, 2015

Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibility for a nursing home administrator is to supervise nursing homes and other medical facilities.

Salary: The average yearly salary for a nursing home administrator is $65,000-$90,000

Education: The education requirements for becoming a nursing home administrator are:

  • 4-Year bachelor degree
  • Must pass a state licensing examination
  • Must complete a state-approved program

Reflection: I would not like to become a nursing home administrator because I am not good at supervising and I would like to develop a career in which I can be conducting surgeries or something more productive. However, I still believe this job is very important because supervision is needed around babies and people in their third age since they can easily be taken advantage of. I support anyone who wants to pursue this job!

                                      The Forgiving Mother
                                                              May 5, 2015

Megan and Lisa were inside a car when drunk driver Eric Smallridge crashed them with his car and they instantly passed away. Renee is the name of Megan's mother who was in pain and suffer when she was informed about her daughter's incident. In court, Eric argued aggressively for his personal benefits. However, the judge sentenced Eric 22 years. As time passed Renee did not feel comfortable and she did not feel like she could move on unless she forgave Eric. Renee Wrote a letter to Eric and she told him that she forgave him. Afterwards, she went to speak to the judge, and Eric's sentenced was shortened to half the time.  Eric felt blessed and very grateful, he was very shocked at the decision that Renee had taken. Now, Eric is out of jail and he visits high schools with Renee to talk about their story and how important it is to forgive.

"When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive."

                             Alan Paton

Reflection: I agree with this quote because if you do not forgive and then how can you expect tot let go and move on if you still have a grudge against that subject. It is always good to forgive because you do not know when a person may be gone and you do not want them leaving without them knowing that you forgave them. An example of this would be a while back a singer and her daughter had an argument therefore they stopped talking to each other. The mother asked her daughter for forgiveness but the daughter would deny it. A few months later, the mother died in an airplane accident and she left without the forgiveness of her daughter.

                  " Dare to stand alone."

                     Thomas A. Monson

Reflection: What I assume this quote means is that Mr. Thomas dares you to make decisions by yourself, not get influenced by your friends, and only do what benefits you. In a way I agree with this quote because sometimes the only thing you should trust is your mind. But then, you cannot avoid people so everything contradicts itself. I just believe that sometimes you just need time by yourself to make the correct decisions and truly know what it is that you want.
